HELLO, AND WELCOME TO THE STEPPY
My name is Jess and I'm a stepmom to a now 14-year-old daughter, Makaela. I met my husband Jason via eHarmony when Makaela was 7. We've been married for 3 years, together for 5+. We live in Boulder, Colorado and I learn something new about parenting (and marriage) every day.
I decided to start this blog because I feel there is a need for a stepmom community. There are more and more of us, having the same relationship discussions and challenges, so thought I would put my story out there. This is the story of my journey.
Being a stepmom doesn't define me, but it's a big part of who I am. I am also a banker, a yoga enthusiast, a wine lover, a book lover, someone that loves to cook, someone that loves to travel, someone who loves to continually learn, someone who loves to shop, a movie lover, and a lover of motivational podcasts and audibles.
The term stepmom has such a negative stereotype associated with it, so I'm trying to create a movement of changing that term to "Steppy". My stepdaughter informed me that she may be too old to start calling me steppy but it may be a good alternative for you, obviously, this will depend on your kids and what they are comfortable with, but it's another option.
I am not an expert at parenting, writing, or psychology, just someone that is willing to share my story and my continued journey in this world of being a step-parent. I'm proud to be Makaela's Steppy. I work hard every day to try to be a good example to her and do everything I can to help prepare her for the world, not an easy feat for a stepmom or any parent, but we're doing the best we can and that's all any of us can do.
MAKAELA / Daughter
Makaela is 14 and is starting high school in the fall. She loves to spend time with friends, sing/listens to music, go shopping, draw, read, and spend as much time on social media as we'll allow.
JESS / The Steppy
This is me, the Steppy, at a vineyard, holding a bottle of wine. Thank you for visiting my site!
JASON / Husband & Dad
Jason is a wonderful husband and father. He enjoys his job as CFO of a manufacturing firm just outside of Boulder. Jason loves to travel, read, and do anything outdoors (hike, bike, ski, camp).
